EPC Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant Contract Signing Ceremony

On 28 December 2010, contract signing ceremony of the EPC Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant between the Owner, Vietnam National Oil & Gas Group (PVN) and PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC) – the Lead of EPC Contractor Consortium  – has been organized in Hanoi, Vietnam. 

The ceremony has received many important attendances: Mr. Le Duong Quang – Minister of Ministry of Industry & Trade, Mr. Tran Van Son – Minister of Ministry of Construction, Mr. Dinh La Thang - Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of Vietnam Oil & Gas Group, Mr. Phung Dinh Thuc – General Director of Vietnam Oil & Gas Group, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh – Deputy General Director of Vietnam Oil & Gas Group, members of Board of Management, Board of Director, Divisions, representatives from Ministries, governmental offices, partners, and other media agencies.

At the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh – Deputy General Director of Vietnam Oil & Gas Group emphasized the national importance of Long Phu 1 Coal-fired Power Plant as it would create the infrastructural foundation for power generation; boost up the local industrial production in Soc Trang domestically; facilitating the movement of economic structure in local; creating revenue for the local budget as well as resources for investment in Soc Trang.

According to the EPC Contract, PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation shall act as a leading member in Contractor Consortium, including members of PVN and other international & domestic partners, sub-contractors, to execute the project with the contract value at 1.2 billion USD. The commercial operating date (COD) for the first unit is expected in the end of 2014, and for the second unit in 2015.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Hung Dung – General Director of PTSC reconfirmed the competitive capability of successfully executing more than 30 projects including EPCI, EPC in oil & gas industry. Backed up with numerous projects PTSC has built up a strong and skillful workforce in executing and managing EPC projects, including both Vietnamese and expatriates. Proven track record and reputation for excellence and professionalism evidently demonstrate how PTSC live up to its commitment. That explains how PTSC rewarded as EPC Contractor for this project.

The project has marked the significant milestone in the development pathway of PTSC in mechanical & construction sector; demonstrating the high-determination of Board of Management and all the manpower of PTSC in enhancing and sharpening its competitive advantage in EPC/EPCI management.

On behalf of PTSC, Mr. Dung also committed to deliver the project in progress, safely and in accordance with Vietnam & international quality standard.

The project is to be first commenced on 05 January 2011 at site.

More information on the project: Long Phu 1 Coal-fired power plant is one of the three plants in the Long Phu Power Plant Center, including Long Phu 1 (2x600MW), Long Phu 2 (2x600MW) and Long Phu 3 (2x1000MW) along with associated balance of plants.

Long Phu 1 Power Plant is designed with 02 units, using supercritical technology pulverized-coal boiler, together with other associated systems such as coal handling, limestone handling, FGD, ash handling, water treatment system, etc. that meets the Vietnam and international quality, efficiency, environmental-friendly standard. The coal source using for the power plant is expected to be from Indonesia and Australia.
